Really Simple Syndication(RSS or Rich Site Summary) is an XML-based format for information distribution over the Internet.
XML or RSS feeds are a way of having notifications of our latest information delivered straight to your favorite web page or desktop. All of our MLS listings, New Construction Projects and News are available through RSS feeds.
To take advantage of our RSS feed you need to have a dedicated news reader. This is a piece of software that checks RSS feeds and lets you read any new publications and releases that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using your browser, and some of which are applications that you have to download and install.
Once you have a news reader you can then choose which RSS feeds to which you wish to subscribe. You can subscribe to an RSS feed whereever you see the RSS or XML logo (see above). If you click on the button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.
RSS readers are available as both web programs and downloadable programs. Some web portals such as My Yahoo can also display RSS feeds. Here are a few popular RSS readers:We have even added buttons for the popular news readers so that you can add our feed information to your reader of choice with one click. Full information on how to subscribe to our feed can be found on the site of your chosen News Reader.
RSS is changing the nature of the Interent and allows you to determine the information you want and have it delivered to your reader so that you don't have to rememeber and visit so many web sites. RSS reading is also built right into the next releases of the Microsoft Operating System, Internet Explorer and Office products due out in 2007.

The Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois, Inc. (MLSNI) is one of the largest Regional Multiple Listing Services (MLS) in the world. MLSNI is owned by ten Chicagoland area Boards/Associations of REALTORSâ and serves over 48,000 professional REALTORS® in more than 8,000 real estate offices located throughout the metropolitan Chicago and Northern Illinois area. MLSNI was established in 1989 to better serve the Northern Illinois real estate industry, which allows their subscribers the opportunity to provide their clients and customers with a wealth of information.
 The Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois, Inc. (MLSNI) was formed in 1989 by the Barrington Area Association of REALTORS®, Elgin Area Association of REALTORS®, Lake County Association of REALTORS®, McHenry County Association of REALTORS®, North Shore Board of REALTORS® and Northwest Association of REALTORS® (formerly the Northwest Suburban Association of REALTORS®) in order to better serve the Northern Illinois real estate industry by allowing REALTORS® the opportunity to access several thousand listings instead of just a handful.
MLSNI began its journey with a system called Real-Trieve™. In 1992 changing computer technology forced MLSNI to take a futuristic step by investing in a new computer system; Compass®. This new system offered flexibility, more options for searching, step-by-step instructions displayed on the screen, and full screen color photos. As of early 2006, Compass® was still in use, along with browser-based systems such as connectMLS™ and RE/Xplorer™, giving MLSNI subscribers multiple solutions to their data accessing needs.
 In October of 1993, additional Associations/Boards joined MLSNI, creating the largest Multiple Listing Service in the world. The conversion to one MLS was completed by September 1994, increasing the number of agents able to access the system from 8,000 to 22,000. As of 2006, we have surpassed 47,000 agents operating out of over 8,000 subscriber offices who belong to ten different Shareholder Boards/Associations. We also provide services to two non-shareholder Associations, both of whom have over 100 members. In addition, MLSNI consistently houses approximately 70,000 active listings on the database, over 3,000,000 tax records and over 2,000,000 off-market listings.
MLSNI adopted the following as its Mission Statement:
